Summer is fast approaching and Extended Horizons is ready for another fun-filled two weeks! Extended Horizons will be starting Monday, June 10th through Friday, June 21st. We have some wonderful activities scheduled that I am sure your children will enjoy, including math and reading enrichment, sports, theater activities, arts and crafts, and field trips.
Please take a moment to review the following information regarding the Extended Horizons program for EFS students. Each child must bring a lunch every day and a refillable water bottle. Refrigeration will be available. Extended Horizons will serve a mid-morning snack and a late afternoon snack after 3:20 p.m. Weather permitting, we will go outdoors during the physical activity portions of the day, using the sprinklers and playing different organized group games. Please have your child pack a bathing suit, towel, running shoes, outdoor water shoes, and socks every day. No dress code is in effect! Sunscreen will be provided, so there is no need to pack it. Drop-offs and 3:20 p.m. pick-ups during Extended Horizons will take place in the dining room. The 5:45 p.m. pick-ups will run similar to regular Horizons. The staff member at the front desk will let you know where to find your child.
If you would like your child to participate in Extended Horizons, please return your completed form to the school no later than Friday, May 31. Spaces do fill quickly, so late or last minute enrollment may not be able to be accommodated.
As you may know, Elmwood Franklin Summer Camp, available to all children ages 3½ to 14, begins the Monday after Extended Horizons on June 24 and runs for six weeks. Please contact Clare Wagstaff, Director, or visit www.efssummer.org if you would like to participate.

At the Board of Trustees meeting on March 20, the Board unanimously approved the enlargement of the school parking lot. The drawing below illustrates the scope of the development work, including new landscaping.
The improved parking lot will allow for safer, more efficient drop-off and pick-up, help to eliminate the bottleneck that occurs at arrival and dismissal, and provide additional parking spaces. The approval process with the City and an informational meeting with neighbors are scheduled to occur within the next six weeks. The actual work is anticipated to begin in August following the close of summer camp and be completed by the opening of school in September.

Please note that due to the Jewish holiday that falls on the first week of school, the first full day of school for all students is Friday, September 6, 2013. Further, we plan to have a half-day of instruction for students on Tuesday, November 26. Our Thanksgiving Program is scheduled to begin at 10:30 that morning. After the program, all students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. to begin the Thanksgiving break. Finally, we aligned professional development days with holiday weekends in the coming school year to minimize disruption to the instructional week for our students. |
In order for your child to utilize your school district's bus transportation in the 2013/2014 school year, you must fill out and return a Request for Transportation form by April 1, 2013. Applications can be found online on your district's website or you can go to your district's Transportation Department to pick-up a form.
