Tuesday afternoon the 1st grade classes had special visitors from the Buffalo Zoo.  When it's too cold to go to the zoo, bring the zoo to school! We met Timmy the box turtle, Flappy the vampire bat, and Peter the bunny.

Timmy is one of the oldest animals at the zoo at 43 years old. Did you know that only male box turtles have red eyes?

Flappy had to stay in his cage.  We learned that vampire bats drink blood and nothing else in their diets.  Those type of animals are called sanguivores.

Rabbits are one of the most prayed upon animals in the world. We learned that's why rabbits have such big ears and their eyes are on the side of their heads... in an attempt to stay safe from predators.

What a special treat to welcome these animals friends to school on a chilly, snowy afternoon. Many thanks to Scott Lawson for arranging this opportunity for our first graders!
