The University at Buffalo Confucius Institute recognized EFS seventh grader Morgan Shaver for excellence in Chinese language learning during the 2017 Chinese New Year Celebration at UB. She was among thirteen local students who received awards from the Confucius Institute. Following the ceremony, Morgan and her family joined the audience of about 1,500 for a colorful program of traditional and contemporary performances to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Rooster, including a performance by Elmwood Franklin’s Mandarin teacher Mrs. Wei (Shirley) Huang, who played the ehru, a traditional Chinese two-stringed instrument.
Eighth grader Dana Nigrin scored a perfect score on the National French Contest and received first place and a platinum award for her achievement! Our eighth grade students competed at the high school level against 21,791 students nationwide. Fellow eighth graders Michael McClure and Jack Stube received gold awards, Leo Biehl received a silver award, Evan Popat and Isabella Warner received bronze awards, and Kendra Johnson received an honorable mention. Félicitations!

The University at Buffalo Confucius Institute recognized EFS sixth grader Carlie P. for excellence in Chinese language learning during the 2016 Chinese New Year Celebration at UB. She was among twelve local students who received awards from the Confucius Institute. Following the award ceremony, Carlie took part in welcoming the audience from the stage during the opening ceremonies of the performance gala. In her welcoming remarks, Carlie introduced herself in Chinese and wished the large crowd happiness and good fortune in the New Year!
