by Mark Saldanha and Shannon Victor Second Grade met up with our friends at Earth Spirit at the Outer Harbor to learn about all the various animal habitats by Lake Erie. We saw about 13 different types of birds, and one even flew down and said hi! Our guides John and Scott taught us about the different plants found in the area, which ones could be used as a medicine, and even which ones to avoid. It was a beautiful day to walk around the outer harbor and take in nature.

by Mark Saldanha and Shannon Victor We are busy every day with rehearsals for our play, gearing up for the dress rehearsal on April 12th and our BIG SHOW on April 13th at 1:50. Hopefully you have sent your costume in already, if not please do so soon. We hope to see everyone at the show. Early reviews are saying this is one of the best!
by Shannon Victor and Mark Saldanha In reading, second graders performed an old improv comedy game, where they had to respond to a partner with a specific type of sentence. We put all of the sentence types (command, question, statement, exclamation) in a random generator, and when a certain type of sentence popped up, the students had to quickly think on their feet and act out the silly sentence. They had a blast! Some of the examples were pretty funny - one person was a pizza place owner who didn't serve meat, and the other person was a customer who only wanted a pepperoni pizza. Ask your child to tell you about our fun game!
by Shannon Victor and Mark Saldanha We will be having a Social Studies test on Unit 5 on March 16th. Students will be bringing their textbook home every day, and should bring it back to school each morning.
by Shannon Victor and Mark Saldanha Now that the play has been announced (Willy Wonka), second graders couldn't wait to audition and get their hands on the scripts. Everyone did an outstanding job during the auditions, and we couldn't believe we were gifted with such an extraordinarily talented class. Students have a copy of their script to keep at school, and one copy that they should have taken home yesterday. They will be receiving song lyrics today, which will also go home. We now begin our rehearsal schedule (4x a week), but encourage everyone to practice their lines and the songs at home every chance they get!
by Shannon Victor and Mark Saldanha "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it". They have been studying hard all week, and today was the big Social Studies test on the thirteen colonies, national holidays, and the birth of our nation. Results will be coming home today in their home and back folder.
by Mark Saldanha and Shannon Victor This is our Focus Wall for the week of 2/13, which we will be covering until 2/24. You will notice the spelling list your child brought home might differ from the words listed here.
by Shannon Victor and Mark Saldanha Tilt your book. The pencil should never leave the page. Take your time. Nice fluid motions when making the letters. Second grades work on all of these elements when practicing their cursive! Remember all of this when you are writing in cursive!
by Shannon Victor and Mark Saldanha Last week we went on a field trip to see the Picasso exhibit at the Albright Knox. We had very experienced docents give us a tour of the exhibit and teach us about the renowned artist. Did you know that the surname "Picasso" was actually his mother's maiden name?
