Third graders enjoyed a wonderful morning exploring Reinstein Woods.  They saw turtles, snakes, frogs, and deer prints!  A guide helped our students understand how invasive species are harmful to our native animals and plants.  The students were fascinated to learn how invasive species can arrive in an area.  The sun was shining and the forest shared its beauty with us!

Third graders enjoyed a fabulous day exploring the Genesee Country Village.  The printer demonstrated the intricacies of creating a flyer or newspaper during colonial times. The pioneer homestead was fascinating with its loft, trundle bed, and cooking pots.  Students really loved seeing the pottery wheel spinning and a mug being created.  The octagon house and inn are always student favorites!  Every third grader wishes we could go again!

Students presented their Movie Poster Book Reports this week! Each student enjoyed directing or producing their own movie based on the book that they read.  They loved casting the lead characters and reviewing the book.  Presentations were fabulous.  Now they just need to find investors to make the movies!

Third graders had a lot of fun creating our auction gift for the fabulous Party on New Amsterdam this Saturday.  Each student placed fingerprints randomly in the peace sign. There is a key at the bottom to find your child's fingerprint.  Happy Bidding!  Third grade is so proud of their auction item.

Third graders began working on their service learning project this week.  A special thank you to all students that brought in materials!  The students enjoyed making the toys for the cats at the Buffalo Animal Shelter.  Knowing that the cats would have hours of fun and frolicking filled the students' hearts with joy.

by Alyssa Charles
In our geometry unit, Third grades have been learning about transformations.  Today we used the reflectors to reflect some art work.  Students saw the "flipping" nature of reflections and observed how the reflectors can also help to find lines of symmetry in shapes or pictures.

by Kate Lynett and Kathleen McIntyre
Third graders have worked very hard since December learning and memorizing their multiplication facts.  Today, students were treated to a sundae party celebrating the fact families!  Each piece of the sundae was earned based on the facts each student stated within five seconds.  Keep studying multiplication facts for automaticity. The multiplication facts are a building block for each student's future math success!
