by Christine Marth and Leigh Mikulka Long DivisionStudents have been working really hard to master long division. They have been working with double and triple digit dividends with single digit divisors. Practice of multiplication facts in many different ways, including racing games with their classmates, have been a great way to make the transition to division so much smoother. LeadershipThe fourth grade continues to work with their Prep II partners in a leadership role. They have been working with them on reading readiness as well as story structure. Students from both grades truly enjoy their weekly time together. “15 Miles on the Erie Canal…” Students are working on a guided research project. The subject is the Erie Canal. This is their first experience with a research project. This time around they are being provided with sources in which they have learned to highlight key information and then paraphrase the information onto NoodleTools (an online note card system.) These notecards will be used later on to propel their research paper. This is a guided process that they will later use on a research paper of their own. Students have truly enjoyed working collaboratively on this project both in small groups and as a class. ReminderFourth graders are in full swing with poetry. Just a little reminder, each student must have their five photo copies of poems (title page and poem must be included) submitted by Friday.
