Connecting to Kijabe, Kenya

Connecting students with the wider world, Dr. Veetai Li, a pediatric neurosurgeon, and Dr. Lorna Fitzpatrick, a pediatric hematologist-oncologist, spoke to students about pediatric medical care in Kenya during an all-school assembly this week. For many years, the doctors have been traveling to Kijabe, Kenya to provide care to children in the local hospital. This summer, Hannon Levy, the brother of eighth grader Lauren ’18, will be joining the team on their annual trip.

To support the work of Dr. Li, Dr. Fitzpatrick, and Hannon, the entire school community participated in a dress-down day and collectively donated $1,385.52 to help fund medical care for the children at Kijabe Hospital.

This fall, Hannon will return to EFS to share his experience with our students.

Students and teachers to snip, clip and shave their way to cancer cures
Picture
Elmwood Franklin School is Goin’ Bald for Bucks to raise funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Students and teachers are collecting donations to benefit cutting-edge cancer research programs and compassionate care programs for the more than 31,000 patients who receive treatment at Roswell Park every year.

All students, faculty, staff, and EFS community members are welcome to join Elmwood Franklin’s team and go Bald for Bucks. Our event will be held on Tuesday, March 15 during an all-school assembly in the Johnston Theatre. Students will shave the heads of their participating teachers and teachers will shave the heads of participating students. Participants may also donate their hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program to be used to make free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer. Donated hair must be at least 8 inches long.

In its ten years, Goin’ Bald for Bucks has raised more than $4 million, and more than 85 schools and organizations across New York State participate in the program every year
