Parent Nights for all three divisions brought interested and excited parents to EFS to learn more about their children’s teachers, classrooms, and curricula.
The seventh and eighth graders completed their incredible outdoor education trips to Letchworth and Camp Pathfinder, where they bonded and challenged themselves and each other to step outside their comfort zones.
The Fall Festival was a huge success, bringing hundreds of people out to the school grounds for fun and friendship. Thank you to the many parent volunteers who made it so special, especially Jamie Saperston, who once again gave her time and talents to bring our great community closer together.
We have added four new members to our Board of Trustees, with the intention of adding several more. Our new trustees are:
Sonja Sirén is a current EFS parent and mother of Sophie (Prep II), Jonatan (Grade 3) and Gabriela (Grade 6). Ms. Sirén has served as the Head of Communications and Marketing for Ekoport Ltd.; as Communications and Media Strategist for Kokoomus, the National Coalition Party in Finland; and as a television and radio correspondent in the Middle East for Radio Nova. Currently Ms. Sirén volunteers in various capacities for the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, where her husband Janne is the Museum Director.
Robert Scott is the President of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. During his 44-year tenure at St. Joe’s, Mr. Scott has taught religion and history, served as Vice President for Student Affairs and Principal, and in 2004, Mr. Scott became the first lay President in the school’s history. Mr. Scott has presided over the construction of a state-of-the-art science facility, an athletic complex, and a residence for the Christian Brothers. In addition, Mr. Scott has focused much of his time and effort on student financial aid to ensure that a St. Joe’s education remains affordable and accessible. Most important, however, has been his influence of the young men who have passed through the halls at St. Joe’s.
Anthony Johnson is the CEO of Empire Genomics, a local leader in the field of genetic research and diagnostics. Mr. Johnson is responsible for guiding the overall strategic vision and managing the day-to-day operations of Empire Genomics. He has a BS in Biology from Fisk University and an MBA in International Strategy from Manchester Business School in Manchester, England. He has also completed graduate level research in neuroscience.
Michele Lee is a current EFS parent and mother of Johnathan (Grade 5). Ms. Lee is an active community volunteer and presently serves as a Director for the Patrick P. Lee Foundation, Vice Chair of the WNY Women’s Foundation, and a Board member of Buffalo Prep. Ms. Lee has a professional background in communications and spent 15 years at The Buffalo News in advertising and operations.
Please welcome these impressive men and women to our Board of Trustees. We are honored and thankful to have them as governance for our school and as leaders within the Buffalo community.
