THE SCIENCE OF TEACHING AND LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Quality professional development is vitally important to Elmwood Franklin School's faculty and staff. Each summer, several EFS teachers and administrators attend the Science of Teaching and School Leadership Academy at the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning in Bethesda, MD. The Science of Teaching and School Leadership Academy is a five-day deep dive into mind, brain, and education science and how this research can inform, validate, and transform teaching and learning. Elmwood Franklin is one of twenty-four partner schools from across the country that is engaging in this incredibly reflective work. More teachers and administrators will be sent to the Academy over the next several summers as we continue to build a core group of faculty who can help our school to continue developing our teaching and maximizing student learning. Our goal is to have all faculty attend this training over the next several years.
FULL ACADEMIC AUDIT
With our online curriculum mapping project now completed, Elmwood Franklin School is embarking on a full academic audit the spring of 2019. The audit will include examination of the scope and sequence of each subject taught at EFS. We will compare our programs to Common Core standards, state standards, and seek input from high schools to ensure we are providing the best academic program possible to our students and one that provides the necessary foundation for them to be successful in high school and beyond. Every faculty member will be asked to participate in the audit in their area of expertise.
