Elmwood Franklin School seeks a dynamic and engaging Mandarin Teacher to join our faculty for the 2026-2027 school year. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about language instruction, cultural fluency, and working with children across a wide developmental range.
Position Overview
The Mandarin Teacher will be responsible for delivering an engaging, developmentally appropriate Mandarin language program for students in Prep II (Kindergarten) through Grade 8. The ideal candidate will bring energy, creativity, and a student-centered approach to language acquisition.

Key Responsibilities
- Teach Mandarin to students in Grades K–8 using developmentally appropriate practices
- Foster speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in Mandarin
- Integrate Chinese culture, traditions, and global perspectives into instruction
- Design engaging, interactive lessons that support a range of learners
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and support interdisciplinary connections
- Use a variety of assessment strategies to monitor student progress and inform instruction
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Contribute positively to the broader school community
- Other teaching duties involved
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Fluency in Mandarin (native or near-native proficiency)
- Experience teaching Mandarin, preferably in an elementary and/or middle school setting
- Strong understanding of language acquisition and student-centered instructional practices
- Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive teaching
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualities
- Experience in an independent school setting
- Familiarity with ACTFL standards or similar frameworks
- Ability to differentiate instruction across a wide range of ages and abilities
- Enthusiasm for working with young children as well as middle school students
