Student Achievements

  • EFS students score in the top 14 percent of the nation on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test. The average score nationally is 100; the average EFS score is 119.

  • Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth uses above-grade-level tests (such as the college SAT for middle school students) to provide a clear picture of advanced students’ math and verbal abilities. Last year, nearly half of our eighth graders qualified for the search, which means that they scored at or above the 95th percentile on national tests.

  • EFS Upper School students regularly place in the NYS Math League competition. In 2013, EFS eighth grade participants placed 18th in the state, and fourth in our 13-county region. Individually, our students took several top spots, including first, second, third, and fourth in our 13-county region; and sixth in the state.

  • EFS seventh graders participating in the Brother Edward Martin Math Contest regularly take top spots in the competition, including first place in 2015, first place in 2014, first place in 2013, second place in 2012, and first place in 2011
  • EFS seventh and eighth grade teams placed first and second at the 2015 St. Francis Annual Math Bowl against 10 other middle school teams, and a seventh grade student earned the top overall individual score.

  • EFS Upper School students have earned the High Achievement award for the past six years for their participation in the Math Olympiads, a worldwide competition.

  • Participating against up to 100 other middle schools from across western and central New York, EFS has had a winning team in eight out of the past nine years in the Stock Market Game, a stock trading competition in which teams of students are allotted $100,000 in virtual money to invest in stocks or mutual funds to buy or sell over a ten-week period.

  • For the past six years, EFS eighth graders have placed either first or second in Western New York in the Level 1 (advanced high school level) of the National French Exam, and more than half of those participating place regularly in the national rankings. In 2016, an eighth grader scored a perfect score and received a platinum award for her achievement.

  • EFS has consistent representation among its Upper School students in the national rankings of the National Spanish Exam.
